Use clean tools- To make apple cider vinegar, use clean tools and ingredients. A single dirt or dust can destroy the whole taste.

Prepare at room temperature- Fermentation takes time and if you are leaving it in a hot place, it will spoil soon. Keep in mind whenever you prepare apple vinegar, make it at room temperature.

Don’t be in a rush- Usually, it will take 3-4 weeks, even if it will start smelling like vinegar, don’t remove it from its place. Wait patiently and get your favorite drink.

Ingredients Required

Get ready to gather ingredients which will be needed to prepare apple cider vinegar at home. I have given a list of such things, only a few items are enough to make homemade vinegar.

Apples or Apple Scraps- To make apple cider vinegar, pick up some sweet and tart apples. This combination will make cider vinegar perfect. And it’s better to collect apple scraps whenever you make other apple dishes, freeze them into a freezer and once it will be enough to make an adequate amount of vinegar, use them. Red, pink and green apples are good, and better to use organic products which are best for fermentation.

Water- Next thing is water, instead of using normal water, use filtered water. This pure water is helpful for the fermentation process faster.

Sugar- Don’t make mistakes, some may say to use honey, but always go for sugar. Sugar is an important part of fermentation.

Glass vessels- When you leave the apple or apple scraps and it should be of large size. Other metals or plastic vessels won’t work faster than a glass.

Air tight bottles- You can’t drink or use the whole vinegar on the same day. Restore vinegar in such bottles and also store it in the freezer if you want to use it for a long time.

Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar Recipe

Let’s start with the most important section of this article, follow each step. We promise you will fall in love with your own homemade apple cider vinegar.

Wash apples- I hope you have collected the best and a combination of apples, some sweets and other tarts. As you will make vinegar using the whole part of the apple, you should rinse and scrub the apples under a tap water so that nothing will be left which shouldn’t be a part of vinegar.

If you are making cider vinegar for the first time, use just three apples to gain confidence for the next time. If you want to use apple scraps, remove them carefully.

Cut into small cubes- Small sizes will ferment faster, so use a sharp knife to cut the apple into small pieces. Keep the peels and cores along with the whole apple, but if you are using scraps then better to use a bigger size.

One more point, never use metal or stainless steels for fermentation, once it will start converting into acidic liquid, which will damage the metals or the metallic taste may spoil the original taste of vinegar.

Pour the water- After cutting the apple into pieces, it’s time to soak them in water. Cover it completely else any exposed apple will begin to rot. And for better taste, use filtered or distilled water, other normal water may contain iron or arsenic in higher amounts which will destroy the real taste of vinegar.

Add sugar- Use raw sugar for the fermentation, sugar will convert into alcohol and change the apple pieces into vinegar. Whatever amount of apples you use, add one tablespoon of sugar for each apple. And stir the mixture thoroughly to make sure that both will combine well.

Cover the jar-  You can’t cover the jar with its cap, when fermentation will take place, make sure it will have enough space to take breath. If you cover it completely, it may be spoiled. Use a cheesecloth and cover the jar with the help of a rubber band.

Keep the jar in a dark place-  Select a place in your home where you can place it nicely for fermentation. Whether it’s the corner or under the shelf, just avoid the exposure of sunlight otherwise it will react with the rays and convert into a new item, but not the vinegar.

Stir the mixture- Once or twice a day stir the mixture, it will help the mixture to fermentation faster. If you see any pieces floating over the layer, use stone to put them down.

Wait until the apple sinks to the bottom- Don’t separate the apples until it will sink to the bottom of the jar. Once you will notice that all apple pieces are lying at the bottom, it means there is no longer need of apples to make vinegar.

Strain the apple- Next step is to stir the apple pieces and let the remaining liquid in the same glass jar for the further fermentation process. Use a cheesecloth or plastic sieve to separate the apple and cider. Don’t use the stained apples or eat.

Leave the cider for fermentation- This would be the last stage of cider vinegar. Now wait for 3-4 weeks when cider will begin to convert into vinegar. Stir the jar every 3 to 4 days and keep smelling. Sweet smell of apples will turn into a tangy aroma. Or you can taste the liquid until it will reach the taste you desire. If it is summer, less time will be required and it would be the opposite for the winter.

Transfer the fermented cider into glass bottles- It’s time to store your homemade apple cider vinegar. Don’t think that you can use the same jar which you have used for the fermentation process. Use a clean glass jar to store for a long time. If you keep the jar at room temperature, it will keep fermentation or in the freezer there will be no more process. It’s completely based on you, if you need stronger, don’t use a freezer.
